Summer Koshien. In Fukuoka, where strong teams abound, the prefectural East Chiku High School secured the representative spot for the first time in 21 years. Expecting a lively atmosphere, I headed to the town where the school is located for the first game. A barbershop that has been cutting the hair of baseball players for over 30 years. A couple who purchased an apartment with a view of the field to watch practice. A former baseball team member who works at a local bank, wiping sweat from his brow as he visits clients.
